Be Careful What You Allow to Grow in Your Garden

Every day, people offer us seeds. Some are seeds of hope, courage, and possibility. Others carry fear, jealousy, doubt, scarcity, and limitation. The question is not whether seeds will be scattered in your life—they will. The real question is: Which ones will you water?

I want to share a story that might sound familiar. A client of mine recently made a clear, peaceful, and exciting decision about her life’s direction. She felt ready to move forward. But when she told a family member, instead of support, she met criticism and doubt. That person’s fear, disguised as concern, made her question herself. Not because her vision changed, but because she let someone else’s fear drown out her own inner wisdom.

This happens more often than we realize. People don’t always speak from their truth. Many speak from their own wounds, disappointments, fears, and limiting beliefs. Sometimes, even jealousy. If they never believed life could bloom for them, they might unconsciously struggle to believe it can bloom for you.

But here’s what I reminded my client: just because someone offers you a seed doesn’t mean you have to plant it.

Your Mind Is a Garden

Think of your mind as a garden. Your nervous system is the soil, and your attention is the water. Whatever you think about repeatedly begins to grow. If you water fear, doubt, or jealousy, those weeds will take root. But if you water trust, hope, and courage, those seeds will bloom.

Protect your garden with intention. Not every opinion deserves access to your peace. Not every voice deserves influence over your future. Not every relationship has earned the right to shape your dreams.

The healthiest gardens aren’t beautiful because weeds never appear. They’re beautiful because the gardener knows what to pull.

Recognizing the Seeds You Water

It’s easy to let other people’s fears and doubts take root in your mind. Sometimes, it feels safer to listen to the familiar voices of caution or criticism. But those seeds don’t belong to you. They come from someone else’s story, not yours.

Ask yourself:

  • What thoughts have I been watering that never belonged to me?

  • What would begin to grow if I chose to nourish trust instead of fear?

When you start to notice the seeds you’re watering, you can begin to pull the weeds. You can choose to focus on what supports your healing and growth.

Tools to Help You Protect Your Garden

Healing after trauma is a journey that requires care and support. Sometimes, we need tools to help us protect our mental and emotional gardens. One way to do this is by using resources that guide you gently through your healing process.

For example, the Still Whole Wellness Healing Journal is designed to help survivors of sexual assault explore their feelings and rebuild trust in themselves. This journal offers prompts that encourage you to water seeds of hope and courage, rather than fear and doubt.

Another helpful resource is the Mindful Breathing Meditation Audio. This guided meditation helps calm your nervous system—the soil of your garden—so you can create a safe space for growth. It’s a simple practice you can use anytime you feel overwhelmed or uncertain. Check it out here.

Both of these tools support you in choosing which seeds to nurture. They remind you that your healing is your own, and you get to decide what grows.

Setting Boundaries to Protect Your Peace

Not every voice deserves a place in your garden. Setting boundaries is a powerful way to protect your peace. It means saying no to conversations or relationships that bring doubt or fear. It means choosing to spend time with people who encourage your growth.

Boundaries can feel hard at first, especially when they involve family or close friends. But remember, your peace is worth protecting. You don’t have to explain or justify your choices to anyone who doesn’t respect your healing journey.

Trusting Your Inner Wisdom

Your inner wisdom is the gardener who knows what your mind and heart need. It’s the quiet voice that guides you toward what feels right, even when outside voices try to pull you away.

Trusting yourself means listening to that voice and acting on it. It means believing that you have the strength to grow through pain and bloom into something beautiful.

Remember, healing is not a straight path. There will be days when weeds pop up, and that’s okay. What matters is that you keep tending your garden with care.

What Happens When You Water Trust Instead of Fear

When you choose to water trust, you open space for healing and transformation. Trust helps you:

  • Feel safer in your body and mind

  • Build stronger connections with supportive people

  • Reclaim your power and sense of self

  • Move forward with hope and courage

Imagine what your life could look like if you focused on nourishing trust every day. What new possibilities might grow? What dreams could you bring to life?

You Are the Gardener

You have the power to choose what grows in your life. You don’t have to plant every seed that comes your way. You get to decide which thoughts, feelings, and relationships you nurture.

Healing is about more than surviving. It’s about thriving. It’s about creating a garden full of trust, hope, and strength.

So today, ask yourself: What will I water? Fear or trust? Doubt or courage? Limitation or possibility?

Choose wisely. Your garden depends on it.

Heal. Restore. Transform.
